    Edible Landscaping

Create a food forest in your backyard! Many of our Virginia native shrubs, vines and trees provide nutritious edible fruits and nuts.

We can design your landscape to incorporate herbs for culinary and medicinal use, and provide fresh cut flowers for your home.

    Stormwater Mitigation

Property owners experiencing concerns regarding flooding or areas of puddling in their yard may benefit from the strategic implementation of a rain garden or bioswale. These practices effectively diminish stormwater runoff and mitigate flooding issues.

Rain gardens are designed to temporarily hold a few inches of water after a storm. Native plants in the rain garden then absorb some of the water, while the remaining water gradually seeps into the surrounding soil. This process prevents water from running off and causing flooding or erosion in streets and drainage channels.

Bioswales are channels designed to concentrate and convey large amounts of stormwater runoff while removing debris and pollution.

    Lawn Conversion / Meadowscaping

Meadowscaping is a dynamic, low-maintenance alternative to traditional lawns. This technique utilizes native plants to replace turf or bare soil, via seed or plugs, to establish designed plant communities. Meadowscaping not only helps control erosion, but also provides essential habitat for birds and pollinators, while creating a beautiful landscape over time. We also specialize in understory restoration, reintroducing native midlayer and groundlayer plants to forested areas that lack vegetation underneath the tree canopy.
